Images from Hawaii - underwater

In Oahu (Hawaii) there were only a couple of places where I was able to easily (and successfully) pursue my underwater photography passion.
Hanauma bay was an amazing (and protected) bay that almost guaranteed turtle sightings, but these claims come with a high price – the place is mobbed and the corals are almost destroyed, this was to be just a preview of what I was to find on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was like swimming in an aquarium stocked full of colourful and very friendly tropical fish against the stark background of dying coral. I used my 8 inch dome with D200 digital camera to get friendly with the fish and turtles that glided past my lens. Some were very inquisitive and I stayed and played for a couple of hours. There was no way I was getting bored with the amount and variety of images to capture.
Underwater photography with snorkel, mask and fins is not the easiest way to capture underwater images so bringing my Epson 3000 portable hard drive which can store my digital images definitely came in handy. It meant I could dump the images onto the hard drive once my memory card was full and continue to snorkel without losing valuable light and time away from the subjects under the water, eliminating the need for me to view and delete images on the spot.

I have done it - I have launched my first iPhone App.
It's part of a long term project and just a stepping stone towards a much more comprehensive application I have in the pipeline. Australian Wildlife is an App for the iPhone that introduces children (or adults) to the sights and sounds of Australian wildlife. It also contains fascinating facts and can be used as an educational tool.
