July 2009 - Project Time!

Hello %%First Name%%,

Winter is always a great time to get stuck into some projects. Typically business will quieten down a little in the middle of the year and it allows provides a chance to concentrate a little more on the passion of photography rather than the business side of things! This newsletter highlights some of the projects I have 'on the go' (in various stages of completion!) In future newsletters, and as projects begin to see the light of day, I will introduce them to you.

Cradle Mountain Workshops - Ian Wallace and Tom Putt

My last newsletter (June 2009) featured information about the photography workshops I conduct with Tom Putt at the beautiful Cradle Mountain, down here in the north of Tasmania. A number of people have taken advantage of our 'newsletter subscription' pricing. See previous newsletter - here.

To further entice some potential attendants, I thought I would include some testimonials, submitted by previous workshoppers interspersed by images taken at Cradle Mountain. These images could be yours! Why not come and join us? It's guaranteed that you will have a great time, see some amazing landscape and come away taking better, more professional photographs.

"Location, location, location! A superb variety of landscapes, combined with great camaraderie, top class accommodation, food and wine, all made Cradle Mountain Workshop a fantastic, satisfying photographic experience. Well organised for all situations and above all, generous and patient with their advice & tuition, ensuring each participant gained breathtaking shots." Lisa, Pymble, NSW

"[the workshop] ...took me from taking happy snaps to showing me the way to take a professional type photo - so impressed! The continuing encouragement and tips for better photography were much appreciated. The critiques of our work was so informative and never critical. Thanks to you. My biggest problem was getting off the big high at the end of the workshop!" Trevor, Mudgeeraba, QLD

"A brilliantly organised workshop! I had a lot of fun and importantly learnt a lot. A great balance between talking about specific shoots and exploring one's own imagination. Thanks." Bart, Glebe, NSW

Australian Community of Child Photographers - Recruitment

In my last newsletter I mentioned the Australian Community of Children's Photography. Junes newsletter detailed a very successful exhibition titled - Heartfelt.

This community is staffed by professional volunteer photographers. Most states are reasonably well represented by photographers although there are some states that could do with a boost in numbers. Tasmania currently has only two photographers on their books! This is a very beautiful and worthwhile cause and although not for everyone, can be very satisfying - knowing that you are helping someone come to terms with a very difficult situation.

If you are a photographer interested in helping, please contact me or the ACOCP. If you know a photographer, have a chat with them about it - most people are not aware of the community and how important it is.

As the Tasmanian State Representative, I am always happy to take calls / emails about the community. Contact me here

Carnegie Gallery Exhibition - One love, three perspectives

Quite a while ago now Loic, my fellow photographer and good friend, teamed up with Terence Munday to propose an exhibition for the Carnegie Gallery.

Our pitch was successful and we have received funding to exhibit "One Love - three perspectives"

Our exhibition will run January - February 2010. My next newsletter will discuss the theme and detail our progress. I'm just starting the sizzle on what will be an interesting and hopefully successful project. Working with others on projects of this nature really reminds me about the passion we have for images, communication and expression. More to follow!

Under The Tree - Fahan School publication

One of my projects (well actually for the past year or so!) has been working on a publication project with Fahan School and Alice Bennett. This project is almost complete and our beautiful book will be hitting the bookshelves late September 09. The book is a tempting combination of modern and traditional recipes, offered by school members and their families. The photography is by Alice Bennett and I designed and produced the book. I'll let you know when it's a little closer to arriving - there may even be an option to pre-order via Fahan School.

Mothers Group Photography

I guess that since becoming a Dad, I have been exposed to a different type of client because I am in contact with different people - new parents! It's a great chance to share experiences and watch the kids playing and interacting together. In a break from the way I have traditionally pursued children's photography, I have been offering sessions to Mothers Groups - an chance to have collective or individuals in a shared and familiar space. Naturally it's also popular because there is not that much to organise as the session takes place at the meeting. If you are interested in one of my Mothers Group sessions - drop me an email - here

Anyway, that’s it for now. I will endeavour to keep you posted.
I hope you enjoyed this newsletter, remember if you did, why not spread the word and send it to a friend?

Thanks for reading
