Back from Cradle Mountain

This week I returned from another successful Cradle Mountain workshop.

The weather was very variable - as it often is at Cradle, but that did not stop us. Tom Putt (www.tomputt.com) and myself led eight participants around the national park capturing amazing natural beauty in amazing natural weather!
As usual we stayed at The Lodge and as such were treated to a feast of creature comforts. We all learnt about photography and software and by the end of the workshop, we were producing some exceptional images and everyone was able to actually use their camera to capture the images they wanted rather than simply point and click.

Over the next few weeks I will feature the work produced by some of the participants (obviously pending permission) and when Tom has finished editing the video of the workshop - I will post it also.

If you have ever wondered what it would be like to attend one of our workshops, or want to be taken to some of the most beautiful places in Tasmania - check out Toms workshop site www.tomputtphotographicworkshops.com

Next workshop

Following the successful Cradle Mountain Workshop, Tom and I adventured on to Freycinet to scope it out for workshop potential - I think it took us about 10 minutes to figure out that it was a "no brainer!" it's a fantastic place for a workshop!

Beautiful wild beaches, fascinating geological formations and more wildlife than you can believe, plus the comfort of the Freycinet Lodge - wow, I can't wait.

We have worked out a schedule that fits in computer / workflow and photography / discovery. There are so many options for great locations, it has been hard to narrow down.

Hopefully see you in November 2010 for the next workshop - keep your eyes on the website it will be advertised here first - so make sure you subscribe to the newsletter to keep in the loop.

My first iPhone App

It's part of a long term project and just a stepping stone towards a much more comprehensive application I have in the pipeline. Australian Wildlife is an App for the iPhone that introduces children (or adults) to the sights and sounds of Australian wildlife. It contains fascinating facts and can be used as an educational tool.

What sound does a Dingo make? Install this App to find out.
What an fun way to learn the unique world of Australian wildlife!
Children learn through sight, touch and sound and our App aims to encourage this in a fun way.
I know this format works as all the testing for this App was performed by my son Alex (18 months)!

See 12 of Australia's most iconic birds and animals, hear the sounds and read the additional information. As well as providing entertainment for your little ones, this is a true learning experience that highlights the best of Australian wildlife.

I would really appreciate it if you downloaded it (there is a FREE Lite version) and reviewed it in the App store - 5 stars would be nice. The full App costs less than a cup of coffee and lasts much longer!

It's in the App store - here

Art and Science

With the help of Marinova (www.marinova.com.au) I have been able to secure some funding for a project we are planning that will showcase the link between Art and Science.

This will be part of Science week (August 2010) and will include an exhibition, a publication and an iPhone App. As the project unfolds, I will keep you informed.
