February 2008 - Happy New Year!
I can’t believe it’s the end of February already! It’s been an action packed summer and I’m just trying to remember where I left off with the last newsletter to know where to start with this one.
Waterbabies
TasWaterbabies is officially up and running, We even had some images published in Tasmanian Life magazine for a ‘What happened in Tasmania this summer’ article! The Parties have proved to be very popular – you may have seen the posters that are starting to take over Hobart and we have had some beautiful promotional DL cards and invitations printed! The most popular item would have to be the TasWaterbabies fridge magnets we include in our party packs!
If you are interested in hosting a party details are here www.taswaterbabies.com
The Key Australia – exhibition – Beyond Vision
A few weeks ago I opened an exhibition at a new business establishment ‘The Key Australia’. Although The Key Australia has not been officially launched (that’s happening a little later this week) they have had their doors open for a few weeks.
It’s a place you can go to for heath and beauty treatments and also to enjoy their beautiful gallery.
I am fortunate enough to be the first exhibition for this prestigious space on Hobart’s waterfront. It’s been very successful so far. There are 26 images, all black and white infrared photographs, white matts and black frames. I’m really proud of the images and the medium of infra-red which produces such an ethereal image – I love it!
The exhibition - Beyond Vision can be found at
The Key Australia IXL Courtyard 1/23 Hunter Street Hobart Tasmania www.thekeyaustralia.com
Or on my website - here
Hint - there are a few extra images on the website!
Website renovation
I have renovated my menu ever so slightly – just makes the site easier to navigate and get to exactly where you need to be.
Have a peek here and let me know what you think.
Tasmanian Photographer of the Year 2008
Just a reminder to keep your calendar free for one of the biggest events on the Tasmanian photography calendar Sunday 13th and Monday 14th April 2008 Salamanca Inn, Gladstone Street, Hobart Tasmanian Professional Photographer of the Year Awards. On Sunday there is the Judging of Awards. If you are new to the Awards, this is the time to definitely be there and see how prints are judged, it’s a real insight and a great opportunity to see the work that photographers are producing in the State. If you’ve been coming along for years don’t stop now.
On Monday – Jackie Dean will be presenting on commercial photography/ teaching and being National President of the AIPP.
Rocco Ancora will also be following on from his 2007 workshop on wedding photography. See you there!
Photography Workshops
You may know that in the past I have conducted photography workshops with my business partner (and friend) Loic Le Guilly
www.photographtasmania.com
Due to work and personal commitments we were unable to conduct 07/08 season workshops. Despite this, there has still been plenty of interest and enquiries about our workshops. In the next newsletter we will be putting together some dates and locations to get the workshops back on the calendar. Keep your eyes peeled here or just make sure you read your next newsletter!

Hair of the Dog 2008
Held in Brisbane, Hair of the Dog is an annual event for the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. Three days of speakers and workshops, interspersed with a trade show detailing all the latest goodies and gadgets in photography.
At this years event speakers included:
Parker J Pfister A fine art photographer with a very specific and unique look and feel to his photography.
Jerry Ghionis A very charismatic speaker, after a couple of hours of listening to Jerry I wanted to start shooting weddings! A great site if you are interested in learning about fashion or wedding photography.
It was a fantastic event and as always I made a bunch of new friends and caught up with plenty of old ones. I was seduced by L&P Photographics and I purchased a new bit of gear – it hasn’t arrived yet so I will hold off talking about it until the next newsletter
Bruny Island weekend
Just days before sending out this email – I spent a weekend on beautiful Bruny Island (south of Hobart).
I resisted the temptation to shoot using my conventional SLR’s and instead chose to limit most of my captures to infrared – the images taken from the ocean are particularly interesting. Have a look at how white the seaweed is between the rocks and the water – amazing.
Just for the die-hard colour fans I included a very cute photograph of some seals, lazing in the sun!
You can find the images on my website - here
That’s it for this newsletter, I will write again in 6 to 8 weeks. I hope you found something interesting in this edition. If you did why not forward the email to a friend – they might be interested too? - Spread the word!
Thanks for reading
Regards
Ian
