January 2009 - Another year upon us

Hello %%First Name%%,

Well it’s well overdue but there is nothing like a New Year’s resolution to inspire a newsletter! Hope you have all had a very merry holiday period and that you are enjoying 2009 as much as I am.

A few things to cover in this newsletter

Providore Island : Tasmanian Fine Produce

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2

Better Photoshop techniques

Cradle Mountain workshops

Introduction to Alex

Providore Island : Tasmanian Fine Produce

I was involved in a project late 2008 that has resulted in a stunning publication from the house of Tasmanian Life Magazine. This beautifully presented book showcases Tasmania’s produce, growers, culinary artisans and cooks. It is crammed full of inspiring Tasmanian images with myself and Sean Fennessy as the principal photographers for the project.

Book Title Providore Island : Tasmanian Fine Produce
Book Author - Walker, Tony

Photoshop Lightroom 2 Adventure

Staying with publications, my good friend Mikkel Arland has released his Photoshop Lightroom 2 Adventure. This book was inspired by the Lightroom Adventure I participated in last year – a group of 19 award winning photographers spending a week in Tasmania and road testing Adobe’s Lightroom 2 software. Read more about the adventure here

My images feature throughout the book and I was also asked to contribute a Lightroom 2 recipe – you will have to read the book to find out more!
I have some photographs from the Adventure here

Better Photoshop techniques

While we are on the topic of Photoshop Lightroom 2, the current copy (16) of Better Photoshop Techniques features an article titled ‘Deep Diving in Lightroom 2’. Bill Stotzner (Adobe Lightroom Development team) and I detail how we refine our underwater shots (taken during the Lightroom 2 Adventure).
Seeing Bills ‘Jelly’ image is reason enough to get this mag – it’s also full of very useful information regarding post production of images. Interested? Find it in any good newsagent.
There are a lot of magazines in this genre so make sure you are getting the best! It’s co-edited by my friend Philip Andrews.

This software really does revolutionise RAW conversion and has a very user friendly interface. I think regardless of your level of experience in RAW conversion you should certainly have a peek at this!

Cradle Mountain workshops

Talking of friends, my fellow photographer and workshop guru Tom Putt and I have decided to combine forces for a couple of workshops this year (2009). We have both been independently conducting workshops at Cradle Mountain for the past couple of years so just to mix things up and cater to demand, we have decided to work together and offer a couple of joint workshops.

Tom’s workshops have been featured on tv shows such as Getaway and I have been running my workshops (with good friend Loic LeGuilly) as www.photographtasmania.com

As a team, Tom and I will offer our photographic expertise on landscape photography, post production and photography business mentoring (if you are looking to take photography beyond a pastime) all this in one of Tasmania’s most stunning locations, Cradle Mountain.

Come and join us for fun, adventure and amazing photographic opportunities.
April - Autumn colours workshop
And September - Spring is in the air workshop

Find out more about Tom here

These workshops will be lots of fun and very popular – with places strictly limited and prices very competitive, you are advised to make your booking early!  Just click on the links above for more information on how to make a booking.

Introduction to Alex

I have saved the best for last, my previous newsletter announced that Sharon and I were going to be having a baby – well it happened.  I am proud to introduce you to Alexander Aedan Wallace, the most beautiful boy ever (I know – I’m slightly biased!)

Alex has his own website - if you would like to take a peek - click here

Anyway, that’s it for now. I will endeavour to keep you posted, there are a few summer projects currently underway - but i'll tell you more about that next time!
I hope you enjoyed this newsletter, remember if you did, why not spread the word and send it to a friend?

Thanks for reading
