Southern Exposure 2007 Just a couple of weeks ago Tasmania held its largest and most successful Australian Institute of Professional Photography conference, Southern Exposure 2007. The conference featured nine speakers over three days in the beautiful surroundings of Cradle Mountain.
A good time was had by all and as always there were many interesting conversations, debates and plenty of exchanges of ideas.
The weather could not have been any better, snowing on arrival and then beautiful sunshine. There was a great photographic opportunity on the second morning for those prepared to brave the cold (and the black ice on the roads!) Have a peek at my image – here

About 3 years ago, Penguin Australia (book publishers) approached a bunch of Tasmanian photographers with a view to producing a coffee table style book highlighting photography in beautiful areas of Tasmania that lack secure and clear conservation management.
Two years and hundreds of photographs later the book is ready to launch. Containing 110 photographs by more than twenty of Australia’s best wilderness photographers, Endangered is an urgent and moving call to save what is left of these magnificent places. With text by Greens Senator Bob Brown, Professor Jamie Kirkpatrick (leading ecologist) and Dr Pete Hay (poet and essayist), this books’ message is now more important than ever.
You are invited to the launch! Sunday 30th September 2007 at 11:30am At the Hobart Function and Conference centre 1 Elizabeth Street Pier Hobart Tasmania
The book will be launched by Peter Cundall with Naomi Edwards as MC
Coming? YOU MUST RSVP YOUR ATTENDANCE by 27th September. Call (03) 9811 2498 or email philippa.elder@au.penguingroup.com
See you there! Read the rest of this article here Beyond Vision Recently I mentioned that I had converted one of my digital cameras into a black and white infra red. That means that the camera does not record visible light but only light that falls within the infra red spectrum, this information is then processed into black and white. Traditionally this was all obviously done with film. It’s always been a bit of a hit and miss event that was very inconvenient – requiring complete darkness to load the film into your camera and then you were always at the mercy of the developing chemicals. Thanks to digital, that’s all changed!
By removing the IR filter in a conventional digital SLR (D200) and replacing it with a filter that only allows infra red light to pass – hey presto – an easy to use infra red camera!
Look carefully at the images here – they are not simply black and white. Green foliage in sunlight is usually rendered snow white, shaded areas complete black.

The new system of sending increases the likelihood of newsletters arriving in your inbox. This is a never ending battle that is trying to reduce the amount of spam we all receive – sometimes they get the good guys!
