October 2009 - Lots of News!

Hello %%First Name%%,

As you will read in this newsletter - the last couple of months have been a very busy time. As well as conducting a photographic workshop with Tom Putt and launching a new website, I have been putting the finishing touches to some book projects and starting others. All of this at the same time as putting together an Exhibition! Read on...

When Photography Becomes Art

A New Website!

I have had an online presence since 2003 and during the past six years, my website has undergone many incarnations - I calculate this as being the seventh significant change!
As well as displaying my photography, I now have the ability to collate and display articles and even use video as a way to communicate. In fact two of the articles in this newsletter are video articles - click below to see what all the fuss is about.
I’d be interested in any feedback (both good and bad - it's feedback that determines the changes my online presence takes.
I hope you find it useful and look forward to hearing what you think.

Cradle Mountain Workshop - video

Having recently returned from the Cradle Mountain workshop - I thought I would share some images taken during the week. Over the next few weeks I will write a couple of articles on the workshop and I hope to feature the work of some of it's participants.

We all had a great time - the first Tom Putt and Ian Wallace combination workshop was a success!

I always jump at any opportunity to see Tasmania from a different angle, so when my 'keen-on-becoming-a-pilot' nephew Billy was down for a visit, my very good friend Doug Thost (commercial pilot) offered to take us to the skies in a light aircraft for a bit of an adventure!

And an adventure it was!  The start of Spring in Tasmania is notorious for unpredictability, particularly with squalling winds and patchy rain, so it was with some trepidation that I bordered the Cessna (with only one propeller!)  I'm not going to lie, it was a rocky ride (for someone who does not travel particularly well!) but the spectacular vistas that were offered were breathtaking (if a little heart stopping at times!).

When Photography Becomes Art

I love it when someone emails me to let me know that they have found an article I have written useful, or an aspect of my photography that they enjoy.  So when Ann contacted me with an unusual request, I was interested to see what happened.

The traditional art of quilt making, is I must admit, not something I know very much about but when Ann asked whether she could use one of my images to model her latest quilt I was intrigued to find out how one of my photographs would translate into this traditional art form.  So after a few months of waiting and wondering, the quilt has been finished and I couldn't resist sharing the outcome with those who might also wonder how a photograph can be used for inspiring a quilt.

Anyway, that’s it for now. I will endeavour to keep you posted.
I hope you enjoyed this newsletter, remember if you did, why not spread the word and send it to a friend?

Thanks for reading
